Free interpretation service in Gangnam during G20 Seoul Summit

The Gangnam district in southern Seoul announced on October 18 that it will launch a 24-hour free interpretation service to help visitors and residents with problems because of language barriers.

The district office signed a memorandum of understanding with BBB Korea, a free interpretation service that provides help in 17 different languages via mobile phone.

As the location of the main venue for the upcoming G20 Seoul Summit, the district office felt the need to have language support services available.

According to the office, the number of non-Korean residents living in the area exceeds 20,000 people, and nearly 250,000 overseas tourists visit the district every year for travel, international conventions, or medical tourism.

BBB Korea is a free interpretation service organization, with 3,700 volunteers providing interpretation to help smooth communication between locals and non-Koreans by using mobile phone technology. To use the service, call 1588-5644 via mobile phone to be connected with an interpreter.
